Acronyms Plugin
Continuing the completion of Windows Live Writer as a complete blogging tool is the Acronyms Plugin.
When you want to use an acronym you hit the Insert Acronyms… button in the Insert sidebar menu of from the Insert dropdown menu.
Enter your acronym and hit search. The plugin uses two web services to report on the acronym and its definition. Click the one you want and choose to insert either the acronym and its description or the acronym with its description as a tooltip.
If you insert the acronym with the definition as a tooltip, the acronym is wrapped in a span tag with the CSS class acronym assigned to it. Some might have preferred the abbr or acronym HTML tag but these come with their own drawbacks as well.
Each time an acronym is used it has to be entered, searched, clicked. The plugin works blog platform independent and thus doesn’t rely on building some kind of live search-and-replace database.
