Windows Live Writer Plugins

Everything to make Windows Live Writer even easier and better

Insert Current Mood

Another popular feature for blogs and blog posts is to share which mood we were in while writing a post.

Insert Current Mood, to no surprise, adds that ability to Windows Live Writer.

It does not work in tandem with any plugin, addon or extension for any blogging platform. It is truly a standalone plugin, making it useful for any blog.

1Once installed, an Insert Your Current Mood… entry is added to your Insert menu sidebar and the Insert menu dropdown.

By default Insert Your Current Mood… comes with one pre-configured mood: Happy. It links to an image of a frog on Live Journal.

Additional moods can be configured by manually edited the MoodMapping.xml file in your Windows Live Writer plugins folder. The entries follow the syntax as shown below:

<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″ ?>
<blogmoods>
	<mood name=“Happy”>http://stat.livejournal.com/img/mood/charitycam/frogs/happy.gif</mood>
</blogmoods>

 2Although it is possible to add different moods / entries to the XML file it must be said that at this point it is not possible to make a template for all or single moods.

Because of this it is not possible to set the image alignment for the mood. In the default mood Happy the image of the jumping frog is quite large and takes up several lines of spaces. It is not possible to set the image to be middle aligened with the text.

There is no CSS class assigned to the HTML so it is not possible to address styling this way either.

These caveats nonwithstanding, Insert Your Current Mood is a good, solid plugin adding functionality to Windows Live Writer many will want to see.
