Windows Live Writer Plugins

Everything to make Windows Live Writer even easier and better

Insert Link from Del.icio.us

1 The plugin author calls it the "almost natural way that linking should work": you collect your links, tagged and annotated and all, on del.icio.us — and when the time comes to use a link in a blog post you enter your link from del.icio.us.

The Insert Link from Del.icio.us plugin for Windows Live Writer handles this linking process for you.

After installing the plugin an Insert Link from Del.icio.us appears in the Insert menu sidebar and/or Insert menu dropdown. Enter your username and password in the options screen and you’re ready to go.

When you click on Insert Link from Del.icio.us a screen comes up which by default will show you all your links on Del.icio.us.

You can limit the links displayed by searching on a specific tag. This search is only in your account: it isn’t a site-wide Del.icio.us tag search.

If you’re using tagging well enough, this feature is quite powerful. Whenever you need a link on a specific topic/keyword, instead of digging through your memory or favorites, simply enter that word/topic — and get linking.

Double-click on a link to view details in the bottom part of the screen. Details include all the tags associated, by you, with that link.

The top part of the screen contains a Link Text field where you can enter the text to be linked.

There are no other properties or attributes you can set: no target, rel tag, title element. Not a major drawback — but worth to note. Also worth to note that at the time of writing none of the linking plugins feature those properties: not a bad by the plugin author then.

Insert Link from Del.icio.us is a potentially very powerful plugin simply because it facilitates a powerful way of link blogging.
