Insert Spaces Emoticon
Windows Live Spaces (was: MSN Spaces) has a nice set of emoticons based on the ones in Windows Live Messenger (was: MSN Messenger). Inserting them automagically as is possible from within the native Windows Live Spaces editor is oddly enough not possible in Windows Live Writer. Insert Spaces Emoticon enables Windows Live Spaces emoticons on any blog.
Insert Spaces Emoticon comes without an installer and has to be installed manually (How to manually install a WLW plugin).
Once installed an Insert a Spaces emoticon… entry appears in the Insert menu dropdown and/or sidebar. When you click it you’re presented with the whole gamma of Windows Live Spaces emoticons and you can insert any one with a click.
Because the plugin inserts absolute URL’s to the images you can use Windows Live Spaces emoticons on any blog.
There is no way to change the URL’s: if you want to download the emoticons and serve them from your own server, in case Microsoft goes image protection for example, you cannot change the plugin’s URL’s. This also means that you cannot expand on the built-in emoticons.
That said, Scott has gone out of his way to include all Spaces emoticons, including the ones not shown by default (”hidden” emoticons) and the little devil one.
Insert Spaces Emoticon does exactly what it says on the box — and it does so in an excellent fashion.
