Tag4writer: insert Technorati tags in WLW
Posted by Cynthia August 24, 2006
Together with Flickr functionality for Windows Live Writer one of the first felt needs for WLW was tagging. Technorati tagging.
True, Windows Live Writer comes with a keywords field but when used with blogs such as WordPress it doesn’t do anything unless you hack core WordPress files.
Introduce Tim Heuer’s Tag4Writer plugin for Windows Live Writer.
It does what it says on the box and although Tim claims it is simple, it is more than “good enough”.
Once installed, when you’re done with your post click the Insert Tags… option on the insert menu in the sidebar or in the Insert menu dropdown. Insert your tags separated with a comma. When you click the Insert button it adds those tags, Technorati-formatted, to the end of your post.
What makes Tag4Writer that tad bit more special is its options screen. Here the tags are defined for Technorati, delicious, Flickr, IceRocket, Buzznet, 43things, LiveJournal — and one custom setting.
Beneath the tag formatting is an input box where you can define a template of how the tags you entered will be presented.
Technorati is the first option in the tag list. You can set it to any of the providers — but only in the options screen. Once you click the Insert Tags menu entry from Tag4Writer you cannot switch back and forth.
Excellent plugin.

[…] At the bottom of the entry is the properties and trackbacks tabs. The properties tab allows me to specify the date and time it will be published, the tags used for this entry, and a field called Link. I am hoping the Link field is equivalent to WordPress’s Post Slug. After doing some research I have learned that the Keywords field won’t actually work with WordPress. Instead you would need to use a plugin called Insert Tags that helps overcome this issue. The trackbacks tab allows you to enter in URLs for other blog entries that you would like to send a trackback to. […]
[…] Multiple Tag was written while Tag4Writer was being developed. There is some functionality overlap with that plugin but Multiple Tag has its own merits to stand on as well. […]
[…] He also has a good idea on how to use tag4writer with Ultimate Tag Warrior (see tag4writer). The same principle also works great with the Windows Live Writer tagging plugin Multiple Tag. […]
